Our History & Foundation
(Since 1967)
The foundation of Shaikh Group of Institutions was laid in 1967 with the establishment of A. M. Shaikh Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital in Belagavi. The institution was founded by the visionary leader Late Dr. A. M. Shaikh, a retired IAS officer, scholar, administrator, and dedicated homoeopath.
The college achieved historic milestones:
- First Homoeopathic Medical College in Karnataka
- First college in India to receive ISO Certification (1996, TUV Germany)
What began with only 14 students has today grown into a reputed educational group with multiple institutions serving thousands of students. The strong foundation built on discipline, dedication, and social responsibility continues to guide our growth.

Further strengthening this foundation, our former Managing Trustee, Late Dr. Abu Shaikh, expanded the Shaikh Group by establishing multiple institutions ranging from school education to higher education and professional courses. This expansion enabled us to address the growing educational needs of society and provide comprehensive learning opportunities under one trusted group.

Late Dr. Abu Shaikh
Former Managing Trustee
In the early 1960s, our founding father, Late Dr. A. M. Shaikh, dared to dream of establishing a learning institution in the then emerging field of Homoeopathy — a healthcare science that was relatively unknown in this part of India. That dream became a historic reality in 1967 with the establishment of Dr. A. M. Shaikh Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital in Belagavi, the first Homoeopathic Medical College in the state of Karnataka, beginning with just 14 students.
Through years of dedication, discipline, and focused hard work, the institution evolved into one of the leading homoeopathic medical colleges in India. The strong academic and ethical foundation laid by Dr. A. M. Shaikh, who devoted his entire retired life to nurturing the institution, became the stepping stone for the growth and expansion of the Shaikh Group of Institutions.
The year 1996 marked a historic milestone when the college became the first-ever college in India to receive ISO Certification (TUV Germany). This achievement reinforced our commitment to quality education, professional systems, and global standards in academic administration.
Since then, the Shaikh Group has grown steadily, guided by the principle of “Quality Education – Delivered Professionally.” Our journey of expansion has been built on transparency, accountability, structured systems, and professional management practices. These values enabled us to establish multiple institutions within a short span and utilize resources efficiently for maximum academic impact.
Over the years, beginning with a playschool initiative for underprivileged children and expanding to graduate and postgraduate institutions, the Shaikh Group has continuously addressed the evolving educational needs of society in Belagavi and Karnataka.
